Greenwood Food Lion Math Night 2017

Greenwood Food Lion Math Night 2017

When it comes to solving math equations, families
at Greenwood Elementary love to find the answers together, with their young students leading
the way. Greenwood families and staff enjoyed a Family
Math Night at the Food Lion located near Richneck Road on Jefferson Avenue. Store Manager, Ronald Hurst, and his employees
graciously welcomed families and provided free cake for all shoppers as well as engaging
math lessons designed specifically for each grade level. Together, families toured the store weighing
fresh fruit, measuring the length of different vegetables, identifying shapes found among
produce, and using many more math skills to make the evening fun and exciting for all. When each student completed their worksheet,
they turned it in to receive a goodie bag containing nutrition tips, a healthy snack,
and fun, educational gifts. Greenwood’s staff greeted families, volunteered
at each station, and helped families if they got stumped on any math questions. Throughout the evening, Greenwood’s Family
Engagement Specialist, Larry Hawkins, held a raffle drawing for families to win valuable
gift cards to Food Lion. By teaming up with Food Lion, Greenwood Elementary
helped make learning fun and memorable for their students and families.
